Journey to the east

Some weeks ago (before the start of the regular rains of winter), I cycled furthest east from my house so far. Let the photo blogging begin!

DSC01391
From Riverton Bridge, this pathway cuts into unexplored territory (to me).

DSC01392
It runs along the northern banks of Canning River. With nothing else except a general sense of direction, I proceeded into the shroud.

DSC01393
Mini train tracks greeted me at the end!

DSC01395
So this is the mini railway tracks which I've heard of but never saw. The place looks abandoned. I cycled along the tracks, which also runs along the river.

DSC01396
Those mini tracks actually look cute.

DSC01397
It covers quite a large area.

DSC01398
It's like a mini neighbourhood interconnected with rail.

DSC01399
The train station.

DSC01402
Point taken.

DSC01401
Ah, so this is what this place is called.

DSC01403
Right next to a catholic church.

DSC01405
And an old folks' home.

DSC01406
Nice artwork.

DSC01408
Real old-style track changing levers placed there too.

DSC01409
Back on the journey. A bridge too far?

DSC01411
The tracks actually go into the wetlands!

DSC01412
Colourful fungi on the ground! Too bad the 1 mp phone camera doesn't do it justice.

DSC01414
End of the line.

DSC01416
I found it! The "legendary" bridge further upstream of Canning River which I've only seen on the street directory before this moment.

DSC01419
Ducks greeted this traveller's arrival at this "sacred" place.

DSC01420
This place is officially the furthest east I've ever ridden my bike from my house... an hour's worth of groin crushing.

DSC01422
Getting ready to cross the "portal" into the other side of unexplored territory!

DSC01424
"Inside" the "wormhole"

DSC01425
A new world awaits on the other side!

DSC01428
Hhhmmm... this looks like a shortcut.

DSC01430
Muddy tracks through the greeneries. Autumn leaves on the lush green grass on either sides of the track.

DSC01431
This track seems to get muddier as I go. It's time to turn back and follow the main sealed pathway.

DSC01433
Flora

DSC01434
Was lost and now found

DSC01435
Back on sealed pathway!

DSC01436
Yes! I've reached civilisation at last! Sun setting, temperature dropping, getting hungry and fatigued.

DSC01437
Cycled on around Ferndale, an unfamiliar suburb, lost. But I know that I need to get out of suburban streets and onto a main road. Finally I found a main road which is familar! I've never been so grateful of Metcalfe Road before!

DSC01438
Passed by Lynwood SHS on the long way home. Sun had set. It had gotten so cold, and its not funny when the cold air gushes past your forehead. It got to the point that I'm so desperate that I was looking out for something to cover my forehead with as I cycled in the cold... anything, even considering plastic bag trash. But the streets were too clean.

DSC01439
Hossack Avenue! I've finally reached the eastern borders of Willetton! However, Willo is a huge suburb, and my house is nearer to the western border (ie, I have to cycle through the whole span of suburbia).

Home sweet home at last. 2 hours of cycling in the cold.
